Literary Look: Bridget Jones from Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy by Helen Fielding

LiteraryLookBridgetJonesThis week I’ll be posting my review of Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy by Helen Fielding. While the novel left me feeling more than a little disappointed, there was one running fashion joke throughout the book that I thought was hilarious. At one point Bridget realizes that she dresses just like the mom on Good Luck Charlie and decides she needs to dress more like a “celebrity at the airport.” This made me laugh so hard, because I love looking at pictures of celebrities at the airport in US Weekly. It’s a guilty pleasure of mine, and I couldn’t believe I was reading about something I do in a Bridget Jones novel. Maybe lots of people do this? Are we all secretly admiring pictures of celebrities at the airport?

How does a celebrity at the airport dress? According to Bridget Jones, a female celebrity at the airport wears skinny jeans, ballet flats, a huge purse, sunglasses, a patterned blouse (buttoned to the top), an oversize blazer, and a scarf. At one point in the book Bridget runs around buying the pieces from stores like Zara and ASOS for her celebrity at the airport outfit. Of course, she eventually wears the outfit and it’s a disaster. It wouldn’t be Bridget Jones if there weren’t at least one fashion mishap. See below for buying information for the clothes in the above collage.

  1. Scarf, Zara
  2. Floral Blouse, Zara
  3. Ballet Flats, Loeffler Randall
  4. Sunnies, Marc by Marc Jacobs
  5. Jeans, J Brand
  6. Tote, no longer available (similar here and here)
  7. Blazer, ASOS
