Event: Tea With National Book Award Winner Jesmyn Ward

I’m so pleased to announce Jesmyn Ward, author of Where The Line Bleeds, Salvage The Bones: A Novel, and Men We Reaped: A Memoir, will be the special guest for tea and conversation at The Gail Keenan Art Center at Coast Episcopal School in Long Beach, MS on Wednesday, November 13th at 4:00 p.m. I’m a huge fan of Jesmyn’s work. I normally don’t post about local events on my blog, but I wanted to make sure my readers within driving distance of the MS Gulf Coast got an invite to this wonderful event. Be sure and let me know if you’re going, so I can give you the patented Mandy Boles awkward hug! Call 228-452-9442 to RSVP. Admission is $25.00 and proceeds will be donated to the Coast Episcopal School Scholarship Fund.

Photo: Happy Thanksgiving

This Thanksgiving I have more than ever to be thankful for: family, friends, and all of the awesome people I’ve met through blogging. I thank my lucky stars every day for all of you.

Pictured Clockwise from top: Me with the bike my sweet husband Nate got me for my birthday. He noticed I was looking at bikes online and surprised me with it. It’s a Schwinn. Pee-Wee Herman had a Schwinn! Coming Soon: Mandy’s Big Adventure!, Nate and I at a Saints game, The kids and I hangin’ out in the library.

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

Ghost Hunting Moms: Super Scary

“Super Scary”

Just two little words and somehow I managed to lose track of exactly how many times my buddy, Megan Jordan of Velveteen Mind said them to me in the premiere episode of Ghost Hunting Moms. The new web series in which Megan and I do our best to track down ghosts at some of the Gulf Coast’s most haunted locations for Babble.com is not, in fact, super scary.

It’s more like pretty scary with a dash of hilarity.

See, out of the two of us, I’m the “badass” of our little duo. Now, some of you are probably thinking Wait a sec, Mandy is not a badass at all. If she’s any kind of ass, it’s more like a smart ass. You are absolutely right to think that, because I’m definitely not a badass. However, Megan is so scared of the possibility we’ll see a ghost that I actually come across looking a tiny bit brave.

Put in Scooby-Doo terms, Megan is Shaggy (Zoinks!) and I’m Thelma. (Not that Megan looks like Shaggy. She is definitely a Daphne as far as looks go. I, however, am strictly a Thelma all around. Not that there’s anything wrong with looking like Shaggy. Okay! Now I’m on a tangent.)

In the first episode of Ghost Hunting Moms, Megan and I check out a “super scary” haunted law firm, and we try to confirm the tale of the mysterious woman in white. We also poke fun at time honored ghost hunting rules along the way! Click here to watch the first episode of Ghost Hunting Moms. Take a shot of chocolate milk every time Megan says the word “scary.” Be sure and leave a comment on the video over at Babble. We really want to hear what you think!

Check out the trailer for Ghost Hunting Moms below. Then be sure to visit Babble.com to watch Episode 1.
